As Wardens we are committed to providing you with regular updates about the work of the Vestry. We met on February 24th and below are some of the issues we discussed and some of the ways you can get involved.
Treasurer Update
January was a very strong month in part due to people who prepaid their 2020 pledges. Thank you! Our financial position is good.
New Programming
We discussed the mental health issues in our community and how St. Matthew’s might be called to respond. Recognizing the need to consult with local agencies and mental health professionals, we identified a subcommittee to work with Marissa on developing our response to this crisis. Marissa will also be reaching out to members of the congregation who would like to get involved in developing programs for both our young people and adults.
Race and Reconciliation
Our Presiding Bishop says, “Reconciliation is the spiritual practice of seeking loving, liberating and life-giving relationship with God and one another, and striving to heal and transform injustice and brokenness in ourselves, our communities, institutions, and society.” The Episcopal Church has charged its members with doing the work on racial reconciliation. Marissa showed us the ways we engaged in this important mission in 2019. We identified a subcommittee to explore what this work looks like at St. Matthew’s in 2020.
Sunday Attendance
Our discussion of the Parochial Report led to a conversation about lower Sunday attendance. Like many churches, we've seen a dip in attendance over the last several years. This is due to a variety of factors, and it's important to note even as the parish is growing. We will be looking at ways to engage people outside of Sunday morning to respond to this need. Stay tuned.
WEPCO Update
One of the important things we do here is take care of our physical space. We accomplish this through our WEPCO joint venture with the Presbyterians, led by a Board of Directors. We expect we will need at least two new members to represent St. Matthew’s in the near future. The Board meets once a month, and no experience is required. Please see Brian Angerame or any member of the Vestry if you are interested. We need your help!
As always, if you have any questions or feel called to become more involved reach out to Marissa or us.
