This Sunday: Stay Home and Worship with Us
Dear friends and members of St. Matt's,
Today, I write to you with a different kind of invitation. As I've continued to work with people throughout Wilton and the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, it's become increasingly clear that we need to close St. Matt's for at least two weeks. If you've gotten to know me, you know that this is a decision that has weighed very heavily on me. And I am convinced that it is the right decision, the choice that keeps God's people safest.
On March 15th and March 22nd, we will not worship in our sanctuary, but online at 10:00am. You will receive (via email and social media) some very simple instructions about how to join us for worship online. A team of people are working to make this as simple and accessible as possible.
Our Pastoral Care Team and the Vestry are working with me to initiate wellness checks and to reach out to you. We have a team of people who are ready to run errands, buy groceries, and attend to the needs of this community. We are blessed with so many faithful, caring lay leaders. If you need anything at all, please be in touch with me.
The WEPCO Board has closed the building to all events and activities until further notice. I continue to be grateful for their leadership and for their commitment to keeping both congregations as well as our community safe.
I am also grateful for the ways that you've been in touch, for the support you're offering to these decisions and to the life of the whole community, for the ways you're reaching out to offer to help. Please continue to be in touch with me.
During this time, all updates and information about programming can be found here so that you'll be able to stay up to date. Please take every precaution with your own health. If you can stay home, please do. Know that you're in my prayers. Let me know if you need help. Use the resources for Prayer at Home that went out yesterday. Particularly if you're feeling anxious or isolated, use those resources for prayer, and plan to join us online for everything from worship, to youth group, to adult formation. There's never been a better time to invite your friends and family to connect with St. Matt's. We can also make an appointment to be together virtually, you just need to send me a note.
The big, loving heart of this community will continue to beat and to grow as we gather, connect, and serve in the midst of this time. Together, and with God's help, we'll make our way through to the other side of this time. The promise of Jesus is that a light shines in the darkness, the sun always rises after the long night, and abundant life waits for us just beyond the next horizon. I believe this will be true for us, too. And until then, I'm looking forward to seeing you online.
Faithfully,
--Marissa +
