Dear friends and members of St. Matt’s,
I hope this note finds you well. As I’ve talked with many of you today, I know that you’re making your way as best you can through this time without power. I know that’s both frustrating and difficult. Please know that if you need anything, St. Matt’s is here to help. You can send me a note or you can join the conversation in our Parishioner Facebook Group. If there’s something we can get you or help you fix, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. I'm so grateful that many of you are well and that many of you are checking on each other. Thank you.
Our first session on Waking Up White was scheduled for tomorrow at 7pm. I’ve decided to postpone that until next week. We’ll have our first session on Tuesday, August 11th at 7pm. This was the original date for the second conversation. It is my fervent hope - and yours, I’m sure - that we have power long before Tuesday! So, we will not meet tomorrow (Thursday) night as too many of us will not have power by then. And we will begin our conversation about Waking Up White on Tuesday evening. I look forward to seeing you online for the beginning of that work. If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet - this is a great time to catch up!
Please do what you can to stay safe. Be in touch if you need anything. And know that you’re all in my prayers. Remember that even in the midst of this, our God is as near to you as your very next breath. And there is no pandemic, no struggle, no tropical storm, no lack of power that can limit or take away God’s love for you. This is not our first storm together. And it likely won’t be the last. But like all of them - we’ll get through it together.
Faithfully,
—Marissa +
