Dear friends and members of St. Matt's,
I can't believe how quickly the time is passing. I suspect many of you feel the same way. How did we end up here so soon?
We have had a very busy few weeks at St. Matt's, too! I'm so grateful for the amazing effort of our community each year to put together Rise Against Hunger. Steve Hudspeth and the Wi-Act Steering Committee do a tremendous amount of work on behalf of our whole community, not just the parish. And it's such a treat to see and hear all the fun that day brings. It is quite a feat to pack 160,000 meals in a day and to gather food for our local food pantries as well. And one of the best parts about it is that this truly is an inter-faith effort. Our neighbors from the Muslim community, from the Temple, and from the other churches in town were here in numbers. It is always inspiring to see this community stand together and help. Thank you to all of you who volunteered, fundraised, coordinated, cleaned, packed, sang, danced, ran, opened doors, handed out gloves, or just came by to cheer everyone on. What a great day.
In our newsletter this week, there are a number of new things popping up for the next few months. There are a few adult education series to put on your calendar as well a retreat for women in the first quarter of 2020. There's information about our remembrance of All Saints Day and information about Convention Worship this coming Sunday. And a whole lot more - so please take a careful look through all the newsletter has to offer.
This Sunday, Don, Meg and I will all be in Hartford for Convention with our two lay delegates, Pam Ely and Sharon Pearson. If you don't know what Convention is, you can read all about it here. You're invited to join us for worship in Hartford on Sunday. And, if you can't do that, our worship at St. Matt's will continue as usual with a generous supply priest from the Diocese of NY (who doesn't have to be at ECCT's Convention!). So you can still come to worship and be together at 8am and 10am this week at St. Matt's. I will be back in time to preside over the funeral of David Close at 4pm (on Sunday 10/27).
Please know that you'll be in my prayers while we're at Convention. And that I'll very much look forward to seeing you on November 3rd, if not before. And as always, if you have a question, if you are struggling, if you need a space to breathe or to pray, please don't hesitate to be in touch. God loves you, and so do I.
Faithfully,
--Marissa +
