What a response we received to the Giving Tree this year! Every single request for a donation was taken and so much was given! With our new Mission structure of partner and beneficiary organizations, we chose 3 organizations that were interested in receiving items via our Giving Tree. By these organizations participating in our Giving Tree program during the Christmas season, it gives our parish yet another opportunity to engage with them in deeper and meaningful ways by providing items that they so need for their clients.
Open Doors requested household items such as pillows, flatware sets, and pots and pans that could be given to residents moving out of the shelter and into affordable housing. Circle of Care requested gas gift cards, Stop and Shop gift cards, and Target/Walmart gift cards for their families with children undergoing treatments, so that they could experience the holidays as "normally" as possible. Wilton Social Services requested items for elderly, homebound patients initially, and then the week before Christmas pleaded with us to get gift cards for Wilton teens who wouldn't be receiving much for Christmas. St. Matt's bought every one of the gift cards they requested within a week, and they were overjoyed with what we could offer them. Open Doors also mentioned that our donations of silverware, sheets, pillows, etc. were particularly important right now as they have several families moving into their own homes right after the New Year.
Every single donation was appreciated more than we could know, and our partner/beneficiary organizations are so very grateful to St. Matt's. Thank you to all who participated in this wonderful giving opportunity!
