Worship draws us together to hear God’s Word, sing God’s praises and share in the Eucharist. As Episcopalians, we use the Book of Common Prayer at all of our Sunday services.
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist is the principal act at our Sunday services. At the 8:00 a.m. service we use Rite 1 (traditional) liturgy in an intimate setting as the whole community is invited to gather around the altar during the Eucharist. The principal service is at 10:00 a.m. with Rite II (contemporary) and music and choirs. Currently, we have three choirs – Boys & Girls Choir, Youth Choir, and Adult Choir who offer their voices throughout different Sundays. Childcare is available for this service.
Our intent is involve as many parishioners as possible in the Worship service and we do so through the use of volunteers who serve as Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs), Acolytes, Choir Members Ushers, Greeters, Scripture Readers, Altar Guild, etc. We encourage family participation in many of these activities as well. The result is a Worship service in which many of the congregation are active participants in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
On Wednesdays, we offer a midweek Eucharist at 11:00 a.m. which includes a homily on the saint of the day or other special feasts.
Our Joint Venture
In September 1971 the members of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and Wilton Presbyterian Church began a “Joint Venture” in which a church complex was build to house both communities and to be a center open to the whole Wilton community. The purpose of this relationship grew out of a time when ecumenism was at the forefront of Christian thought. It was also understood as a way that two congregations could share resources of staff and space, as well as develop joint Christian Education, and Youth groups. Throughout the past 30 years we have worshipped together at various times during the church year and engaged in joint outreach projects and fellowship.
